Rio Grande Sports Information
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Freshman Katie Browning took top honors in the pole vault, while Tyanna Petty set a new school record in the high jump and Nichole Worsham broke the school record in the 3,000-meter race walk that she'd set one week earlier as the University of Rio Grande women's track and field team posted a third-place finish at Friday's Cedarville University Collegiate Indoor Invite.
Browning, a native of Athens, Ohio, cleared 9-00.25 to easily capture the pole vault title by more than six inches.
Petty, a freshman from Somerset, Ohio, set a new school record of 5-03.75 in the high jump for a second place finish and, at the same time, secured a spot in the NAIA Nationala Championships by meeting the "B" qualifying standard of 1.62m.
Worsham, a sophomore from Beavercreek, Ohio, finished eighth in the 3,000-meter race walk with a new school record and personal-best time of 16:35.92, bettering the mark of 16:59.77 that she'd established at the Findlay University Indoor Track & Field Classic.
The NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for March 5 in Geneva, Ohio.
